Scooping, measuring, weighing, labeling. Learning.
I love so much about this picture. Her tree not only has roots, but its a Baobab tree (we’ve read about them in a number of books). And how about that snazzy blanket fort?!
She has been sitting in bed chopping up her flash cards for a new game she has dreamed up. There’s a large pile of offcuts the floor beside the bed.
Such neat cutting, and great fine motor skill practice. Bonus: we have the new pieces all cut out for our new sight word game.
Some of Annaleise’s current growing projects. On the left, yellow Tomato seeds have just sprouted and on the right, regrowing Bok Choy and Carrot in a drinking coconut shell.

She learnt to knit in less than five minutes. Better than most adults I know :)
Also, notice the awesome giant needles? I’ve been searching everywhere for a big enough set (special project in mind), but the etsy ones are expensive. I even knitted on chunky wooden spoons for a bit :) today we found these funky red ones for a bargain $2. Thrift shop find of the week!

Champion kid strikes again.
She has been badgering me to read the first Harry Potter story to her. I am resisting because I don’t think the themes are appropriate at this age. I don’t think I can edit them out without compromising the story, Tolkein was easier that way.
Anyway, ticked off that I wouldn’t read it, she declared that she’d read it herself. And she did. The whole first sentence. It took time, and perseverance. And she learned how a comma inserts expression. Then when she was done she started transcribing the words on the page. I had to go when she was halfway through, so she hurriedly finished off by putting ‘Mummy’ at the end, but she was sure to use a fullstop to end her sentence. Her page was proudly presented to me as a gift, and happily received. I couldn’t be prouder.
Lucky she spent the past week at school being ‘challenged’ by learning the letter A.

By-golly I think she’s got it!
Did just build a solarsystem. Mini megalomaniac!
Exploring rockpools, my little girl has already identified anemones, black nerites, variegated periwinkles and limpets. Clevergirl!
5 year old scrabble has less rules than the wildwest.
Leelee spent yesterday afternoon painting with her Art set (a Christmas gift). ‘Monet Paints a Day’ has been her recent favourite bedtime book. We’ve had it for a while now and it’s absolutely beautiful. Based on real events and containing actual correspondence from Monet to his fiancé it provides a real glimpse into Impressionist life.
